Frequently Asked Questions
How can I sign up to volunteer?
Everyone — including individuals, families, and children — needs to register online through our Volunteer Calendar in order to volunteer.
What is the minimum age to volunteer?
Volunteers should be at least 7 years old. If you’re between 7 and 15, you need to come with a supervising adult. For shifts at the Produce Rescue Center, volunteers must be 14+ (and accompanied by an adult). For the Meat / Protein Pack (freezer) shifts, volunteers must be 16 or older.
What should I do when I arrive for my shift?
On arrival, follow the designated marked paths in the parking lot to reach the main entrance for safety. Then sign in at reception, and you’ll be taken to the Volunteer Lounge, where a short safety orientation will be given.
What kind of clothing or attire is required for volunteering?
Volunteers must wear closed-toe shoes (no Crocs or house slippers — non-slip sneakers or boots are preferred), avoid tank tops or revealing/loose garments, and ensure shorts reach at least mid-thigh. Clothing with offensive messages is not allowed
If I volunteer in the Produce Rescue Center, what should I wear?
That area is refrigerated (about 45 °F), so be sure to bring a coat or jacket, gloves, and a warm hat or head covering. Feel free to take breaks to warm up as needed
How can I sign up if I need to complete court-ordered community service?
Court-ordered service volunteers (age 16+) are accepted only if referred by the relevant county departments or courts for verified misdemeanor/traffic offenses (no felony referrals). To volunteer for community-service shifts, sign up via the Volunteer Calendar, making sure to check the community-service option on registration. You must bring proper documentation for check-in/check-out — otherwise your hours won’t count.
Whom should I contact if I have questions or want to schedule a group or special shift?
For any questions or to set up group volunteer shifts, you can email [email protected] or call 936-271-8800.
